The Killers are an American indie rock ban from Nevada, Las Vegas. The band consists of Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning, Mark Stoermer, and Ronnie Vannucci Jr.
The Killers formed in 2001 and initially only played in small clubs in their local town. By the end of 2001 they had recorded a demo tape and had played their first live show together at the Cafe Espresso Roma in Las Vegas in early 2002. They began to send demo tapes to major record labels in the US, all the record labels turned them down but the band caught the eye of Alex Gilbert, a British representative for Warner Bros. The Killers signed with the British label in July 2003.
The Killers released their album Hot Fuss in June 2004 in the United Kingdom on Marrakesh Records and in the United States on Island Records, which brought the band mainstream success and even reached Number 1 in the UK. The band has since has sold over 5 million albums in the USA, over 4.5 million albums in the UK and over 15 million worldwide.
However, despite their success they have been involved in some controversy including disputes with bands, most notably; The Bravery and Fall Out Boy.
